God Moments – or Coincidence?

God Moments. We’ve all had them. Those times you really can’t explain, but something happened – when you knew God intervened in your life and made a difference. It was more than coincidence and you knew it. It proves God still loves you and cares what happens to you. He may even fulfill your dreams if you wait long enough….

When David attempted to take a loaded suitcase full of toys to African children, he was told it was too heavy. The fees would be exorbitant – way beyond his means. Then something amazing happened…

Scroll back fifty years…

A Dream of Africa

As a child of eight years old, growing up in my dad’s church, a visiting missionary touched my heart. I felt the desire to go to Africa someday but it seemed an impossible dream. I sensed God’s call into the ministry during high school and then spent my life in active ministry. Fifty years had passed from that dream of going to Africa. Then an opportunity came to go to Uganda working with a team on a church, school, dorms, and clinic in a mission campus.

  Miracle #1 -Toys for Kids

pexels-photo-226718.jpegExcitedly, I gathered thousands of balloons and hundreds of miniature toy cars for the
kids of Africa. When it came time to weigh my luggage at the airport, I was informed the suitcase with the toys was extremely overweight; the cost and fees would be in the hundreds of dollars.
I said a prayer under my breath and then said to the ticket agent, “I don’t have the money but it would be a shame if I can’t take it. This suitcase is packed with gifts for African children. Kids in Africa have never seen a balloon and certainly never a hot wheel.”
He replied,  “Well, we can’t charge you for that!” and sent me to board the plane.

 Miracle #2 -Spur healed

Upon arriving in Uganda Saturday evening, my team was met by the local pastor.

David and Bible

When he found out I was also a pastor, he wanted me to preach Sunday morning. The worship service began and the aisles and front of the church were soon filled with people dancing and praising God. They began to sing a song in Swahili and acted it out by lowering to the floor and then rising up; some picked up chairs and held them over their heads.

Standing beside the pastor who spoke English, I asked, “What are they singing?”

He replied, “They are praising Jesus because they were down to nothing and dying of AIDS but Jesus gave them life. They are lifting Him up. Then a man with one leg came down the aisle on crutches. “This man lost his leg in an accident a couple of weeks ago,” the pastor said. He began to do the same thing – lower himself to the floor and then rise back up.

I came to Africa with a spur on my heel. Every step was painful. But as I stood there that morning I thought, if this man can dance and praise God with one leg, I can at least stomp my feet for Jesus. As I did the pain in my heel went away never to return.

Then David met Joshua and something even more amazing happened….
